Pasco County, FL Phasing Out Pretrial Services |

Sheriff Bob White of Pasco County, Florida has just announced that his agency will be phasing out the pretrial services unit due to budget constraints. Pasco-Pinellas State Attorney Bernie McCabe and County Court Judge William G. Sestak do not support the dissolvement of this program.

NYC Bondsman Forged Documents |

Juan Villar, a New York City bail agent, has admitted to forging documents for over 50 defendants. In 2003 and 2004, Villar misrepresented the collateral that defendants had offered for bail.

HI Insurance Commissioner Revokes Bail Bondsman's License |

Monica Joyce Pacheco, a bail agent on the Big Island of Hawai`i, has been issued a cease and desist order from J.P. Schmidt, Hawai`i’s Insurance Commissioner after allegedly withholding premium payments and cash collateral for her own use.

Madoff Denied Bail in Ponzi Scheme Case |

Bernie Madoff has been denied bail until his sentencing for pleading guilty to securities fraud, perjury, and other charges after defrauding thousands of investors out of billions of dollars, in many cases life savings. While Madoff was out of jail on $10 million bail with the condition of being under house arrest before his plea, Judge Denny Chin decided that Madoff’s age (he is 70), his considerable assets, and the possibility of up to 150 years in prison heightened Madoff’s flight risk.
