MS Bail Bonds to Help Women's Shelters

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour has recently signed into law a bill that uses the bail industry to help domestic violence victims and women's shelters. The new law assesses an additional $10 fee to the already existing $20 fee or 2% of the bail bond, whichever is higher. This fee will help battered women and children across the state of Mississippi by contributing to the funding of shelters, crisis lines, counseling and educational programs to prevent domestic violence.

NJ Woman Admits to Bail Fraud

Wendy Bagarozy, a 38-year-old New Jersey woman, admitted to Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels that she posed as a bail bondswoman from Jersey Best Bail Bonds to steal money from a man who was trying to post bail for a friend. In addition to pleading guilty to theft by deception (the bail charge), she also pleaded guilty to identity theft and two other counts of theft by deception.

Enforcement Agent Shot in Stomach On the Job

Houston Bail Enforcement Agent Tyson Kennedy was shot in the stomach early in the morning on Wednesday, April 8. Kennedy, along with three other agents, were attempting to find Jesus Ramirez, a fugitive who had skipped out on a $35,000 bond. Ramirez was not at the house, though it was listed as a possible residence on the bond application.

Gang Leader Admits to Shooting Bondsmen

Arthur Basaldua, a 29 year old Louisiana man, has admitted to shooting two bail bondsmen who were attempting to recover Basaldua in 2007.
