Bail Laws Create Problems |
|
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - The Law Society of New South Wales claims that juvenile detention centers are becoming overcrowded after Australia passed tough new bail laws last year. The new laws make it harder for people to get bail when they are accused of serious crimes. The legislation also makes it harder for people who have committed serious offenses to apply for bail numerous times. As a result, about half of all juvenile prisoners have been denied bail before being convicted in court. The Law Society of New South Wales is asking the government to re-examine the bill.
