JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Bondsman Antonio Cooks was shot and killed by a police officer while attempting to serve a warrant. The officer was cleared of wrongdoing, but the family still have questions about the shooting and have stated that they aim to launch a lawsuit in the case. Cooks’ family say the bondsman was shot in the back and have been working with attorney Benjamin Crump in the case. The report from the medical examiner lists multiple gunshots, including one in the back, and lists “homicide” as the manner of death. Crump has stated that the multiple shots and the shot in the back may constitute excessive force. He also notes that Cook did not point weapons at police and wore identification. Crump and the family have questions about why the bondsman was shot and why an official investigation found that there was no violation of police policy in the case.
