Bail News Roundup - February 26, 2007
At AboutBail.com, we have to admit that we are excited. Over the past week, the news has all been great. Again and again, the staff at AboutBail.com has been reading about bail professionals as heroes – as those catching the bad guys and nabbing crooks. It’s been quite a week and we’re so proud. We can’t wait for next week:
Another example of what bail bondsmen have to deal with…
When bail bondsmen James Farrar, Charles "Chuck" Koah, and Fish Fisher brought a defendant to court this past week, they brought more than they bargained for. The bail bondsmen brought Demorris Marcel Childress to the Bedford County Courthouse to face a drug charge, but Childress brought something a little extra – officers found crack cocaine in Childress’ pants. Childress was charged again, proving that criminals should not bring drugs into court. Quick-eyed Koah noticed that something was wrong when Childress kept asking to use the bathroom during court.
Bail Bondsman Notices Gaston County Police Mistake
The media is reporting that Police in Gaston County are searching for Robert McDowell, after he was mistakenly released. The problem stems from the fact that McDowell looks like a man who made bond. McDowell was released after stepping forward as that man. The bail bondsman posting bail in the case uncovered the error and alerted the authorities. An internal investigation is now underway to determine how the man was released and police are searching for McDowell.
Houston Bail Bondsman Files Lawsuit
A Houston bail bondsman plans to sue the city of Houston to stop the city from using red-light cameras to send tickets to red-light runners. Michael Kubosh, a Harris County professional, feels that the cameras are illegal and wants their use discontinued. He also wants Houston to refund the fines they have collected using the cameras.
Will New Game Raise the Sex Appeal of Bail Bondsmen?
This past week, a new game, Ark: Broken Sword IV, developed by Revolution Software and Sumo Digital, was released, starring a whole new sort of protagonist. Unlike past PC games, featuring muscle men or others, the hero of this latest game is none other than George Stobbart, a New York bail bondsman. Stobbart helps the beautiful female protagonist of the game search for the ancient treasure of the Knights Templar. We love this – we can just picture spin-off movies, TV shows, and other games featuring sexy bail bondsmen saving the world.
Oxford Bail Bondsman Moonlighting As Bus Driver Saves Kids
On February 19, 2007, Oxford-area newspapers were reporting that bail bondsman and bus driver Russell Boles was driving his school bus when a young man pointed a gun at the bus. The quick-thinking Boles told his charges to stay low and to get away from the windows. Boles drove away and then pulled over to make sure everyone on board was ok before phoning authorities. Boles’ bravery didn’t end there. As a bail bondsman, Boles decided to conduct his own investigation into the incident. After asking around in the area where the incident occurred, Boles says that he identified the perpetrator from a photograph. He spoke to the man’s mother and she will bring her son back to Oxford law enforcement.
