Bail News Roundup - March 5 , 2007

The AboutBail.com staff this week was not reading all great news. This week the media reported on two bail professionals doing wrong. All is not bleak, though. There are still the stories of bail professionals working hard to track down the bad guys:

Not Heart-Warming News
Lonoke Police Chief Jay Campbell, his wife Kelly Harrison Campbell, and a bail bondsman named Bobby Junior Cox are facing court after allegations of corruption against the trio have surfaced. The three are accused of taking prescription drugs from homes they entered in the line of duty. They are also accused of plotting to manufacture methamphetamine. The trial continues.

Bail Bondsman and Bounty Hunter Tracking Down Ex-Officer on the Run
Bail bondsman Ronnie Long and bounty Dusty Steele have been hired to track down former Fort Worth police officer Casey Allen Roe. Roe is accused of having sex with a minor and supplying alcohol to minors. Roe has already missed court appearances and seems to be on the run, possibly because he is afraid of being a former police officer in jail.

Florida Bail Bondsman Opens Fire
St. Petersburg bail bondsman Norman Britten Jr. was arrested this past week after he fired a firearm while trying to arrest a man. Britten was driving in his car when he spotted the man, who had skipped out on bail on a traffic offence. Britten shot at the rear tire on the man's car but the man was able to drive away. Residents in the area called police because there were children nearby when the shots were fired. Police charged Britten with Discharging a Firearm in Public and he was released after posting $20,000.00 bond.

Texas Bounty Hunter on the Trail of Meth Dealer
Former private investigator and current bounty hunter Gary Roberts has joined forces with colleague Adrian Murphe to track down Jimmy Jones, accused of dealing methamphetamine. Murphe and Roberts have been making regular trips to Lufkin, Jones’s hometown, but so far have not been successful in finding the man. They believe that Jones has fled and is selling horses in order to make money while on the run.

The Dog Finds a Champion?
Hawaii House of Representatives Rep. Gene Ward (R-Hawai'i Kai-Kalama Valley) is requesting that the Legislature support famed bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman. Ward wants to ask the Mexican government to drop extradition charges against Chapman. Chapman is accused of illegally trying to arrest convicted sex criminal Andrew Luster in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last year. The charges stem from Chapman’s attempt t remove Luster from Mexico to the United States.
