Detroit Mayor Faces Legal Woes |
DETROIT, MI – Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and one of his former aides, Christine Beatty, have been charged with perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice. In addition, Kilpatrick has been facing legal problems since he allegedly assaulted a detective trying to deliver a subpoena. A judge has changed the terms of Kilpatrick’s bond in light of testimony from the detective. Kilpatrick needs to immediately post $7,500 in bond and undergo random drug tests. A bail bondsman has helped the mayor pay the $7,500. Under the mayor’s new bond conditions, Kilpatrick is no longer allowed personal travel outside Michigan and cannot travel on business outside Michigan without court approval.

Bond Set in Bizarre Misson Person's Case |
ORANGE COUNTY, CA – The bizarre case of 3 year old Caylee Marie has gotten stranger. The young girl was reported missing about a month after the alleged kidnapping took place. Both the girl’s mother and grandmother have made contradictory statements about the case. The girl’s disappearance was first reported by Cindy Anthony, Caylee Marie’s grandmother. Cindy Anthony called 911 twice, at first appearing calm and an hour later crying and screaming. During the second call, Casey Anthony, Cindy Anthony’s daughter, came on the line to report that her daughter was missing for 31 days. When asked why she had waited so long to report the disappearance she told the dispatcher that she was looking for her daughter on her own. Casey Anthony was arrested and Judge Stan Strickland has set a $500,000 bond in the case. The family does not seem able to raise the $50,000 for a bondsman. Anthony’s lawyer is asking that she be released from jail without bond to help in the search for the missing girl.

Immigrants Face Jail or Deportation |
FREMONT, CA – Some experts claim that better background checks and stringent new laws have meant far more immigrants are facing deportation orders, even for misdemeanors. Many of these immigrants face a tough choice - jail time or deportation. If an immigrant chooses to wait in jail and fight the order, he or she could spend years in jail while the case works its way through the courts. In most cases, immigrants awaiting decisions on their deportation order appeals do not qualify for bail because of a previous conviction.
