Court Decides That Bondsmen Can Advertise |
HOUSTON, TX - Bail bondsman Carl Pruett solicited his business by cold-calling alleged criminals before they were picked up. The Harris County Bail Bond Board told Pruett to stop calling about six years ago. They alleged that his actions were putting officers and bondsmen in danger by alerting them that they were being sought. Pruett sued the board and Harris County, and a federal appeals court has ruled that his cold-calling is protected by the First Amendment. Pruett will have to make his calls to between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
