Jury Seeks 40 Year Prison Term for Bondsman's Murder |
|
RICHMOND, VA – The bail industry was shocked by the death of bail bondsman James W. Woolfolk III, shot in the line of duty. The man accused of his death, James E. Carr, was convicted of first-degree murder and will be formally sentenced November 7. The jury in the trial has recommended that Carr serve a 40 year sentence. Shortly before the jury announced a verdict, the defense and Richmond prosecutors reached a plea agreement which would have seen Carr in jail for only 33 years. However, Circuit Judge Beverly W. Snukals told attorneys that there was no reason to honor the agreement once the jury had made their decision.
