TEXAS - Ochiltree County is coping with extra inmates and some claim that illegal immigrants who have committed state crimes make up a large portion of the inmate population. Immigration and Custom Enforcement puts holds on undocumented immigrants, which makes it difficult for these inmates to get bonds to get out of jail. A new proposed agreement between Ochiltree County Jail and the Dallam-Hartley County Jail could solve the problem by permitting the county to ship inmates to the bi-county jail. The cost would be $40 per day per inmate.
