Questions About the Re-arrest System for Bondsmen

DALLAS, TX -- A recent editorial in the Dallas News noted that the Dallas County bail system needs to be revamped so that claims made by bondsmen and others must be verified. There have been a number of news stories in recent months highlighting the lack of verification in the system. For example, during the summer a number of news stories revealed that Dallas County was owed a considerable sum in forfeited bonds because there was no followup on the bonds. This month, journalists Kevin Krause and Ed Timms wrote pieces about bondsmen who filed court papers alleging that skips had been arrested. No documentation was filed to prove that the re-arrests had taken place.
