Los Angeles bail bonds - celebrity bail amountsCelebrities seem to always be getting in serious trouble with the law. Most often we hear them causing general public disturbances, getting caught driving drunk or crashing their car while under the influence. For celebrities, although this is a punishable offense, most of them can post their Los Angeles bail bonds for $100,000 and continue on with their careers. What we don’t often hear about are the people who get out on bail for the most serious of crimes. Generally, most crimes fall below the one million dollar benchmark, but there have been some seriously high bails set for the rich and famous for the most heinous of crimes including murder and other felonies.

Murder pays a price tag of $1,000,000 for bail bonds but, for the most part, this is the same throughout the country. If more than one person is murdered in a case, it’s usually a million dollars per fatality. Max B, a rapper from Harlem NY was given a $2 million bail amount for a crime he arranged in 2006 where two people were murdered. His counterparts spent time in jail until they were convicted in 2009. Max B was also convicted and is now serving a 75-year sentence, but bail allowed him to walk a free man for at least 3 years while the trial was in session.

Just this year, financial celebrity Dominique Strauss-Kahn from got out of jail time by posing cash and bonds for a total of $6 million. Because there is still private bail in the State of New York, $1 million of the total amount was posted out of his wife’s personal funds. Bernard Madoff and Dennis Kozloski each paid $10 million when they got hit with felony charges in order to continue working business as usual.

Chris Paciello, a local celebrity of the Miami nightlife, turned himself in to local authorities in February of 2000 after being accused of robbery. A popular restaurateur and club owner to celebrity havens across the city, his bail was set at $15 million. As a former member of the mob scene in New York City, this Staten Island native had been charged five times before, some counts of murder, but was never convicted. The prosecution tried to make a case that his establishments were specifically for money laundering operations, but the charge never stuck. Although charged numerous times over his lifetime, Paciello was never convicted.

Although some of the highest bail amounts in history are not celebrities, you could consider their stories notoriously famous. One example of this is a New York doctor who sexually abused his patients while they were under anesthesia. There were so many counts of this abuse that the bail was set at $33 million. One of the highest bail amounts recorded in history is Christian Gerhartsreiter, a famous con artist, who was charged $50 million for a case against him for a kidnapping. He is currently serving out his sentence in the United States instead of being deported to his native Germany.

It’s a fallacy that celebrities get out on bail any faster than a regular citizen that is familiar with the system. No amount of money made by these famous individuals is really a factor in getting them out faster – it is the staff and support that surround them that expedite the process. It’s also usually not their money, either. Although celebrities may be able to handle the heavy price tag, most still have to get their bail through a bail bonds company. For major cities like New York and Los Angeles, bail bonds companies even specialize in catering to the rich and famous.
