Bail Doubled In Domestic Violence Case

MANCHESTER, CT -- In recent years, Connecticut has been trying to keep domestic violence suspects in jail and away from victims. A recent case highlights some of the progress. John Whittaker, arrested five times over the past six weeks in domestic violence incidents, had his bail doubled during his most recent arrest – from a $250,000 cash bail to $500,000 that is not cash only, meaning that Whittaker can turn to a bondsman. So far, Whittaker remains in jail.

Suspect That Fled Bondsmen Tracked Down in Louisiana

HOUMA, LA -- Stanley Foret has been on the run from Florida authorities and was wanted on several charges, including forgery. He was recently found and arrested in Terrebonne Parish in Louisiana. Bondsmen tracked Foret to Mississippi last week, but Foret fought with the bondsmen and fled from them. Authorities tracked him down to Terrebonne Parish, where he resisted arrest. Foret is receiving medical attention after being stunned during his arrest and will be moved to Florida to face the changes against him.

Hamilton County Seeks to Recover Forfeited Bonds

CINCINNATI, OH -- Hamilton County is owed about $2.1 million in forfeited bail bonds. Most are from criminal cases and the county is trying to recover the money. The county discovered last year that it was owed the money, mostly by one bondsman and his insurance company. The county is trying to negotiate a settlement for $1 million of that owed amount.
